Interview of Manabu Ozeki

Could you introduce yourself a little, talk a bit about your background?

I am a self-taught photographer, installed since 2009 as a professional in Japan.
Before I was a gardener.

When, how and why did you begin to make photography?

When I was a student at the Tokyo University of Agriculture I did a motorcycle trip. I then bought an old camera for portraits and landscapes during my journey.

What do you like in this form of expression?

I like the impression left by a landscape as if ... we discovered it at each look.

What are the themes that you like to photograph?

What there is in us, emotions ... Life.
Life is beautiful.

What are you looking to share through your photography?

The intensity I have to shoot someone and that is reflected in my photography.
This “something” that I can convey, I think.
I like sharing.

What is your idea of sensuality?

For me, the sensuality ... it is an artless beauty ... that fascinates.

What photographers fascinate and / or inspire you?

Famous photographers inspire me of course, but the most important for me are the photographers and models of Sensual Photography.
They really inspire me ... from beyond the seas.

How do you prepare a session of shooting?

My work takes much time but I set a rule book a day off for a session of shooting on a personal project.

What (s) camera (s) do you use ?

Yashika-flex, Nikon FM10.
Canon 1D MarkIV, 5D MarkII.

What (s) techniques do you prefer?

I prefer to shoot black-and-white film and in natural light.

How and why did your photography changed?

When I found out that my photography could express what I felt ... my photography has changed.

What brings you the internet media?

Information, stimulation and relationships to wonderful people.

What do you expect from a website like Sensual Photography?

I expect Sensual Photography to express artistic and touching beauty, that is to say, real beauty of human being, more and more.

What are your plans?

A photo exhibition with only pictures of Emi, my wife.
A trip to France.

What would you add?

Thank you so much for everything, Nicole and Francois!
