Interview of Satin Popalam

Could you introduce yourself a little, talk a bit about your background?

My name is Tatiana Poutiatina and my pseudonym is Satin Popalam. I was born in the Far East, I grew up in Siberia and now I currently live in Moscow.

When, how and why did you begin to make photography?

It is a little more than 3 years I am a professional photographer but photography was initially a hobby for much longer. I think it is a great responsibility to say "being a photographer," that is why I took my time. I am very happy to have found my own way. It is very difficult to give a precise answer, "How and why you became what you are?" ☺

What do you like in this form of expression?

What I like most is that ... I can’t do without photography. When you find your way, you begin to serve your cause; there are of course difficulties, failures but also a ephemeral happiness of some recognition. In a way, it's like love: you can’t explain why you love someone, you just love, and that’s all. For the photo, it's the same. ☺

What are the themes that you like to photograph?

Now, my favorite theme is the female nude.

What are you looking to share through your photography?

I wish to share something positive with the spectator but I try not to be influenced by his tastes. I think that anyone who is engaged in creativity should be in a constant search "be on the cutting edge" in his quest to show everyone what there is better and a different approach to beauty.

What is your idea of sensuality?

Sensuality is both within spiritual and intimate, so it can touch our heart ... anywhere, anytime.

What photographers fascinate and / or inspire you?

I do not know why but I can’t be fascinated by other photographers ... except maybe Sally Mann, she is authentic and her work is an example for me. I'm much more inspired by the painting and cinema.

How do you prepare a session of shooting?

I try to organize everything, from make-up model to the post-processing ... This is integral of a photo session.

What (s) camera (s) do you use?

A Nikon D700 and sometimes a Polaroid.

What (s) techniques do you prefer?

I do not even know ☺

How and why did your photography changed?

Creativity must by definition be constantly changing. Otherwise, it is not art. My photography is in this eternal process.

What brings you the internet media?

Internet gives me the opportunity to show my photography to a wider audience.

What do you expect from a website like Sensual Photography?

I like your website and I'm glad it exists.

A special thank you to Pavel Barakhvostov for his translation "Russian-French" ☺.
